Hawaii is perhaps the most unique state in the USA with its tropical islands and distinctive culture. I have been there three different times and all have provided wonderful memories at different times in my life. As special of a place as it is, Hawaii isn't my typically preferred tropical beach destination, mostly because of cost. In many ways, you can sit on a beach or resort for a week in Mexico at a similar distance for much less. That said, there are some advantages to Hawaii. It doesn't require a passport, the laws are familiar, there are many direct flights from the West Coast and it provides an experience that just can't be replicated.
