Having the right equipment can make the journey much easier

Everyone has their own preference for their suitcases, but here are a few items to improve your packing options.

Duffel Bag Suitcase

The duffel bag is perfect for taking a cruise. When preparing for Antarctica there were very strict weight limits and it led me to find an alternative, lightweight suitcase to allow for a few extra items. Since then, I've found a travel duffel bag ideal for other unique packing needs. Eagle Creek makes a nice line and the large size will fit all the same items as your traditional suitcase, but is perfect for the close confines of a cruise ship room because it will fold down to almost nothing.

Luggage Scale

Some airlines are getting more strict with luggage limits, especially overseas. With a simple and basic electronic luggage scale, you can be assured that you won't add any additional fees when you show up at the airport.

Shoe Covers

If you are not into having all the dirt, grime and bacteria from the streets spread out all over your clothes, these simple shoe covers for your suitcase are perfect for staying clean (and more organized than using plastic bags).

Travel Wedding Band

Why take the risk of losing an expensive ring, or even spending more than a few dollars on a fake one? Silicone rings are great for delivering the message, but lightweight and comfortable for whatever activity might come along. There are a number of different products and styles available.

Laundry Bag

A dedicated bag for your laundry is necessary, but also can be a fun part of packing as it can remind you of all the places you have gone with it. There are lots of varieties and options, but something with a travel theme is fitting.

Storage Cubes

These small storage cubes are perfect for keeping carry on items organized for simple and easy access during transit. Dedicate them for electronic chargers, camera items, contacts and solution and possibly for keeping a passport, pen and customs form together- or any number of combination of needs.

Compression Bags

These space saving bags will save you a lot of room when packing for a long trip and the suitcase is bulging. They are incredibly easy to use and perfect for making bulky items (sweats, ski gear, etc.) much smaller.

Laundry Detergent

Having the ability to wash a few things means you can have more flexibility for things you might buy along the way. These one-time use packets are great for washing an item or two in your hotel sink and to keep clothes fresh.
